Sights and Sounds - Catholic Education Week 2012

Another Catholic Education Week has just wrapped up at Ontario's 29 English Catholic school boards. This blog isn't large enough to feature all the prayers and activities, celebrations and acts of service that highlighted this year's event. Today's post, however, offers insight into the distinctive focus and spirit that defines how Catholic school communities "Walk in the Light of Christ."

Highlights include: a video from the Bruce-Grey CDSB and photo highlights from: Cardinal Collin's outdoor celebration of Mass at the Dufferin-Peel CDSB and the 17th Annual Choral Celebration at Ottawa Catholic's St. Joseph's Parish in downtown Ottawa.

Credit Cap re: Ontario's Four-Year High School Program

Among the initiatives announced as part of the government's 2012 Budget was the government's plan to put a cap on high school credits. Starting in 2013-14 full funding for high school credits will be capped at 34 credits. Credits beyond 34 will be funded at Adult Education grant rates which will reduce funding to boards for students going above the cap of 34 credits.

To help answer the many questions arising in the community around this decision, the Ministry of Education published a number of "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) on the Ministry website. Those FAQs are listed this issue of the OCSTA newsletter.
